John is a PhD candidate in the Department of Politics and Public Administration in the University of Limerick, with a research focus on the Common African Defence and Security Policy (CADSP) of the African Union.
After stints as a journalist and a parliamentary assistant, he started his PhD research in 2014, examining the factors that influenced the establishment and institutional design of the CADSP, a detailed policy framework which was ratified by member states of the African Union in 2004. He is conducting his research under the supervision of Prof. Tom Lodge and Dr. Frank Häge. John has tutored across a broad range of modules, including African Politics, Modern European Political Thought, International Relations, Nationalism, Ethnicity & Conflict, Introduction to Government & Politics, Issues in World Politics, and International Organisations & Global Governance. His research interests including Institutional Design, International Negotiations and the African Union.
